Fanning Over: 'Lego Ring' - Faye Webster (ft. Lil Yachty)
When all the pieces just connect beautifully together... (◠‿◠✿)
Faye Webster and Lil Yachty pack a whole lot of grimy charm with their Animal Crossing-meets-Rock Band psychedelic fantasy on new single, ‘Lego Ring.’
What’s a Lego ring, exactly? A ring made of Lego, I assume. Apparently, Webster wants one that’s crystal clear and big enough to hurt her finger. And after hearing that, I kinda want one, too.
Best friends since middle school (or what we in Australia call Year 8 or 9), Yachty and Webster prove the perfect pair, even coining themselves the ‘dream team’ as their slumbering vocals effortlessly meld together amid the psychedelic rock sludge. These two just radiate wholesome good vibes!
This isn’t the first time Webster has collaborated with a rapper, with Father contributing a verse on her 2019 track, ‘Flowers,’ and the singer/songwriter often incorporating elements of RnB and hip hop into her sound.
‘Lego Ring’ is from Webster’s upcoming album, Underdressed at the Symphony. As she describes the creative process (via Stereogum):
'I think I hit a point in songwriting during this record where I was just like, man, I said a lot' [...] The record feels like a mouthful to me, but I don’t always have to be deep. I can just sit down and sing about this ring made of crystal Lego that I really want.'
Faye Webster's Underdressed at the Symphony is out March 1 via Secretly Canadian.
