Faye Webster’s latest single ‘Lifetime’ is the cloudy, nostalgic yin to ‘A Dream with a Baseball Player’s summery, youthful yang, a lovesick pair that so perfectly fit together. Why these songs evoke such imagery for me, I’m not entirely sure, but they do…
Like ‘But Not Kiss,’ ‘Lifetime’ is sparse and seductive, allowing enough room for her deep affection to luxuriate in its jazzy, simmering groove. Again, Webster expresses her love in very few words (‘Can’t imagine/ Before you/ In a lifetime’), as if each line aches for her to sing.
The clip, meanwhile, is a gorgeous fever dream, finding romance in overcast skies as we follow the singer through lush greenery and other empty spaces. So powerful is her longing that Webster quite literally ages (thanks to prosthetics) while waiting for the love of her life, which leaves her as desolate as her surroundings.
Love seemingly has a way of eluding Faye Webster, according to her songs. Hopefully it doesn’t take her a lifetime to find it...💗
